About Vibrant Planet We are an interdisciplinary team with leaders from climate policy, ecology, forestry, and technology (Netflix, Facebook, Lyft, Guidewire). Weve built a decision support platform to inform and accelerate natural resource management and protection with the goal of keeping forests and other natural landscapes intact, starting with fire-adapted forests in California and across the world. We launched our first product, Land Tender, in Sept 2021; it is being put to use in multiple large, high profile landscapes in California with inroads nationally and internationally. Were scaling the data platform and building additional vertically integrated modules. Vibrant Planet is backed by climate solutions leaders, including Ecosystem Integrity Fund, Grantham Foundation, Earthshot, Elemental Excelerator, Chris Cox (CPO at Meta), Neil Hunt (ex CPO of Netflix), and Halogen Ventures. - For further information please visit: About the Role We are looking for a versatile, hands-on infrastructure focused engineer to help us scale and build our backend systems and tools. You will be part of a small team of engineers and scientists, tackling some of the most important climate change related issues facing the world today. This is a remote role (and company) so being comfortable and effective working in a distributed team is crucial. Key Responsibilities:

• Design and implement fault-tolerant and robust cloud infrastructures and drive best practices in AWS
• Take our distributed computing environments to the next level of scale and reliability. -
• Own the scientific / machine learning development environment, enhance our stack.
• Collaborate with other engineers, scientists and other stakeholders to share knowledge and build expertise
• Lead and participate in development life cycle activities like design, coding, testing, and production release.
• Contribute to our evolving engineering culture, standards, tooling, and processes.
• Mentor and support other engineers and deeply review code. Technical Qualifications
  • 5+ years of professional experience in cloud-based environments -
  • 2+ years professional experience with Kubernetes technologies such as EKS
  • 2+ years of professional experience with infrastructure-as-code technology such as Terraform, Docker, or similar.
  • Comfort with Python or an equivalent language, ability to write clean, high-quality code and tests to keep our system fast, reliable, and monitorable. Bonus Qualifications - Absolutely not required, but nice to have

      • Strong communication skills; discussing complex technical concepts to engineers and non-engineers is no problem to you.

      • Eagerness to learn, think creatively, and share knowledge with others.
      • Ability to write understandable, testable code with an eye towards maintainability.
      • Proactive and empathetic mindset - you love to roll up your sleeves to fix problems - Location - We are a remote first company with the majority of the team in the US west coast time zone. We also have a small and growing presence in New Zealand. Location can be flexible, but we are primarily targeting those two time zones and anything in between.
